Last of Q1??

My Word, I can't believe how fast the year is flying by! The first quarter of '08 is almost over! The 31st of March... In 3/4 of an hour I'll be a year older... but I've decided that from henceforth, I won't be any older than 30 :P Call it whatever you may... i believe that you ought to be only as old as you look! Yes... I'm gloating about God's gift of youthfulness and elastic skin... If only He also gave me the gene to remain skinny forever:( well, we can't always have it all. I remember coming across this car decal thingy which said "I'm fat and you're ugly, but I can lose weight." I thought it was so funny... but of course, we all know how difficult it is to lose weight. I've been laughed at for declaring that I'll be going to NZ to lose weight!! (I thought they were my friends; then again only friends will laugh at me, right?) I'll try and log my weight-loss programme here.

Anyway, brought small K to pedi today. She'd been having a runny  nose for last 4 days, and suddenly developed a chesty cough yesterday. Usually I'd self-medicate for a while and see doc only when meds don't seem to work. But, I really wanted to make sure that she will be well by next week, so had to bring her. Good thing I did. Doc said she's developed bronchitis from what she suspects is the mycoplasma bacteria. To save time, yet not place her immediately on the antibiotics, she starting her on the nebuliser... for 5 days!!! For one who has only instructed other adults to use it in the hospital before, it was truly a traumatising experience for this first try on my own child, let alone a 13 month old!!! After wrestling and struggling with her till the meds finished, K had worn herself out, and this mummy was perspiring!!! What was consoling about it was that small K was very much happier after the neb, and doc said that after a few times, the 'smart' ones will realise that this is good for them, and will stop struggling! Boy did I pray that my lil K is one of those smart ones. Well, the 2nd dose given in the last hour proved that she just might have that lil genius streak in her. She was of course asleep when I gave her the neb, and she didn't struggle one bit!!! I think I might have figured this one out!!!
Oh well, at the end of the day, I pray that she'll be well by this week, and jie K will be immuned to this bug.

So this is how my birthday celebration begins... oh yes... I forgot about the dinner to Gayatri in Little India. My fav Indian restaurant. ($15 fish head curry on mon and wed! where to find!)
will keep you updated on how celebration continues...

Stay tuned!!!

The Countdown continues...

16 days... I started counting about a week ago. Just to make sure that I know how much time I have to pack and prepare. Somehow, in the last 5-6 days, there hasn't been much progress. I've packed 3/4 of 1 large suitcase of all the winter clothing for my kids. Yesterday, I was so pleased with myself for having squeeze 6 thick jackets into 2 'lock & lock' vacuum seal bags, and they are just 2 inches thick in all :) I'll have to take a pic and upload it here... (reminder to self)

Yet several things left undone... I need to hand over the tennis team to someone, get jie K to the dentist, get travel meds from the pediatrician, pack, pack and pack, what else? Lots more I think... but I'm sure in that last week, it'll be a mad rush for us. Both K and I are people who0 strive under pressure I think. We always leave things to last minute. But, the last few times we did that on our holidays, we ended up quarrelling cos of the mad rushing around, putting the blame on each other etc... hmmm... maybe I should really start early this time.

Well, I'm feeling quite relieved now. K has finally completed his 6 week course. It was really shiong for us. It was almost like not having him at home at all. He'd be home really late most nights, and he's out of the house way before the sun rises. On other nights, he's stay up or wake up real early to study. I experienced how wives with jet-setting husbands feel... 2 kids and a dog...phew... I really thank God for my parents and their helper for helping me. My place of refuge :). Well, all the hard work has paid off. K ended up 2nd in the course, surpassing all the scholars in his course. We really thank God for his providence. K says that for the amount of effort he put in, he didn't think he'd do well; only with God who has blessed us richly, would all this be possible. Even this trip to NZ is truly provided for by God.

Now I think I have to whip out my camera, and start taking pics... this blog has way too many words...

New Life

On this Easter Monday, I'm starting a new life... not physically, but in cyberspace. As God gave us new life by dying on the cross for us and rising from the dead, so here I am... With a new life ahead of me (at least for the rest of this year), I'm inspired to share our journey, reflections and epiphanies, with you, through this year (and hopefully beyond).
I've never had the urge to set up a blog till now. As we're going to be so far away from our close friends and family, I thought this would be the best way to share our photos, stories and travels. I hope that I'll be able to get easy access to the internet to keep my updates current.

Lastly, I pray that you will enjoy this journey with us. Your comments, snide remarks and of course encouragements are most welcomed. So we don't feel like we've been forgotten, and deserted on a land at the bottom of the earth...:P
